The Igbo elders, elites, traditional rulers should take responsibility for the uprising in the east. Where were they when people like Nnamdi Kanu hijacked Ojukwu's Biafra idea? Something that is clearly bigger than him. Freedom starts with Economic Empowerment!
Most of the Igbo elders are fearful of loosing face with the youths, using their youthful exoberance to their advantage by negotiating with politicians with the promise to control them but pocket the Inducement Packages and pass on stipends to the youths.
Some of the Traditional rulers do not want to be embarrassed by the government of the day so they sit in the fence silently supporting the youths and at the same time agreeing with the position of the government, as they acknowledge the Elites with chieftaincy titles that they clearly do not deserve.
The Elites instead of create more jobs in the Southeast with the wealth they use to decorate their bank accounts, they donate it for weapons which they know will never be used as intended. Some of the youths they empowered with guns will definitely use those guns to do side deals. Some competitors amongst the elite will engage these same youths to use those weapons to eliminate their rivals. The interesting part is that the elite can afford to move their immediate families to safety outside the country while the children of the less privileged go about screaming "Solidarity forever!!!" as the boys from their political counterparts hijacks protests to incite trouble and infuriate the security agents to go into defence mode.
Biafra is emancipation from mental slavery: Kill that thought that makes you think you are marginalised by the Federal while your state governors divert funds meant for your states, then indirectly incite you through your elders, traditional rulers and touts of THE ELITE to make trouble so the federal can release more funds for security which they eventually embezzle then give the elite reconstruction contracts which gives them more money thereby making profits from your troubles- Blood money!
You enrich the elites by burning down police stations and government properties. After the youths destroy things, they all go and queue up for the contract to rebuild even before the bodies of those killed become cold in their graves.
Biafra is Empowerment: A fruit falls from a tree as soon as it has developed the capacity (seeds) within it to be independent, to form another tree. In other regions another word for Igbo is Money because the Igbos are blessed with the Midas touch but one who cannot control his mental and emotional processes can not generate wealth.
The elite use the youths instead of empower them! They give them stipends to feed and keep on coming so they can be receptive to their control. They empower them with weapons instead of with Capital! We have heard cases where they make young men serve them for free, then after several years of service they settle them with peanuts or simply set them up for stealing then dump them. Do they dump their own children when they steal from them? Then these boys continue their life depressed, desperate and exposed to the temptation to survive through crimes. Other boys seeing the experiences of these unlucky youths refuse to take on apprenticeship, they hustle (baranda) to make ends meet in major markets and the girls sell their bodies to these same elites.
BIAFRA is tradition. Tradition is based on high morals. In those good days no parent wants their children to relate with a thief but the opposite is what we see today criminals are celebrated first by these hungry elders and greedy elites. The elders of today praise Money above Morals. They give more attention and respect to young men and women who have money not minding their source of income than to those who live a modest life.
We have to redefine what the BIAFRAN concept is. We need to look into the heart of the late Chief Ojuwkwu to see the plan he had when he expressed this. He did not intend violence, he knew that power will definitely rest in the Southeast if we learn to use the natural abilities God has given to the Igbo man. He knew that it is only in unity that the Southeast can become a power force. The Igbos were to become King makers. Of what use is the Presidency when you can control all the Presidents that comes into power?! Of what use is power when you cannot use it to benefit the people you lead? Strive to take strategic positions as King makers!
Look back and see the gross disappointments of most of the Igbos that made it to the federal level. What did they do for their people? It is even a shame to say you know some of these politicians because people will analyse your life and doubt your claim thinking you are showing off. We must rise above tribal sentiments to appreciating individual potentials. What can the nature of a person put on the table for development and productivity? Not his tribe or ethnicity!
Before, all Igbos were brothers and sisters but since the Pentecostal brain washed and fixated witchcraft theories into their minds, then hijacked them from the Catholic which made the division even wider. Now it is Oyen Abia, Oyen Anambra, in fact the division has gone deeper to Oyen Awka, Oyen Ngwa etc. then they label those born outside the Southeast who can not speak fluent Igbos as "Efulefus". One can only imagine the rubbish! Division every where amongst the Igbos. Remember what they did to those who did not observe May 30th?
These past few days has revealed only one thing and that is: We are getting it all wrong! We have shot ourselves in the leg too many times and beginning to look stupid. The Igbos need to sit and think, God has given us the ability to use this brain productively. Choose God's Will above the will of man. No religion or tradition encourage violence, stealing, covetousness or immorality etc. Transparency, Responsibility & Empowerment is the way forward!
