The trending snake bite in the toilet story sent quite a shock to people, this is not new, it happens in remote areas where there are trees.
I once slept in room with a snake. I knew there was a snake under the bed, as the gentle sound of it's movement woke me I looked under the bed with a touch light twice but didn't see it. I knew clearing the things under the bed may put I & the snake in confrontation that could lead to a bite, so I opened the door & went back to bed so that it can go out. When it crawled out I heard the sound by the door, I woke up & closed the door. I did not alert my host but few days later they saw the snake on the wall inside the house & killed it.
Few years ago I perceived this strange smell around my apartment, I sensed some form of animal was inside & I knew it's not a snake so I calmed down & prayed to be shown. So, one evening while on my bed facing the door this medium size rat came to my bedroom door to peep into my room as if to see me, infact the familiarity of the rat sef π showed that it's not it's first time but it turned back to where it came from even before I made a move to chase it but it disappeared.
The next day the same rat came again did the same thing (checking on me as if it's a pet although I know animals are drawn to me but no be this smelly one.π) it had become slow so I followed it, after it entered the toilet and tried to escaped through the FLOOR DRAIN I grabbed the nearest stick & killed the rat, checked my floor drain to find it loose & slightly open.
The floor drain was open when I moved in to the apartment, so I bought a new seive which didn't fit so I just left it on top of the drain. What if a snake had followed the rat.π¬
I think we are looking at the wrong places through which snakes enter the house. Most of the time they enter through the following places in search of food: Rats & Lizards.
1. THE DOORS: This is the number one entry points for snakes & rodents if you leave your doors open especially with little children around. If there's enough space for them to crawl in under the door.
2. THE WINDOWS: If your window nets are torn & rats can enter so will snakes.
3. ROOF: If your ceiling is broken they can crawl into the house silently following lizards. I once saw a rat come out of a roof & ran across the road through the electric cables that connects electricity to the house from the poles. A snake can follow it.
4. THE TOILETS & FLOOD DRAINS: These are actually the escape route for the snakes, especially when they get stuck in the house after eating all the rats in your house at nights while you are asleep or away. They will bite your bum if your pee or poo tries to hit their head or if you stay too long in their attempt to come out or they may drown.
They also like the toilet because it's the coolest area in the house and where they can drink water.
When they crawl in to the toilet to escape & find no way out they crawl back in & that is when you see it. Snakes can live in a house, change it's skin in your wardrobe without your knowing. For you to find snake skin & eggs in your house shows the snake is a member of the family.π
5. SEPTIC TANK SERVICE BOXES: If open they can crawl in after rats & keep coming of they find it a cool spot to chill, change their skin undisturbed & lay eggs, they don't just crawl in aimlessly.
HOW TO KEEP SNAKES OUT
1. Keep the rats out or the snake will see your house as their kitchen.
2. Block all entry points especially the small service boxes of your septic tanks.
3. Keep all clutter away that's where rodents & strange animals hide.
4. keep your house clean. Clear the grass around your house regularly.
5. Keep your toilet clean. If your toilet is black you're less likely to see anything inside it.
6. Set an intention to keep snakes out & remove fear. I am more irritated by snakes & anything slimy than afraid of them.
7. Do not kill harmless animals & snakes outside your house if not a threat to you or anyone. Animals are less likely to attack if not threatened.
8. Keep pets like cats & dogs. Cats keep rats away, dogs will alert you or fight the intruder.
9. Develop your spatial awareness, this enables you to know if something is out of place in your home or if there's something strange inside your home. always follow the urge to clean.
10. When the rats disappear & no signs of their activities without your personal efforts then know something is helping you eat them. Search!ππ
WHAT TO DO IF BITTEN BY POISONOUS REPTILES OR INSECTS
1. Try to identify the snakes around you & the one that bit you, kill it or look it up online & save the picture, read up on them on your way to the hospital, this will enable your doctors to know which antivenom to administer.
2. Don't panic, take an antihistamine if you have one this is to reduce allergic reaction. If you have allergies to most things. Rush to the hospital & state the first aids taken.
3. Eat 5 to 6 bitter kola (depending on the size of the bitter cola) I know bitter cola drastically reduce the side effects of alcohol in the body instantly. Other research studies published online also boast of the efficacy of bitter cola on venoms but this should not exclude medical attention.
4. Or Eat onions or garlic & apply it om bite site (if no bitter cola) this prevents blood from coagulation if bitten by snakes with venom that coagulates blood. Remember this is just first aid.
5. Apply heat on the bite spot (I know this works for scorpion stings because I've used it before) it can be painful but not all venoms are heat resistant.
6. Do not allow any one to cut the bite site this may further spread the venom. Snake's fangs are curved so they inject venom under the skin.
7. Don't allow sucking of the venom because the venom may also affect the mouth of the person if the venom of the snake cause tissue death.
8. To tie or not to tie the bite area is determined by the nature of the venom. Current study revealed tieing can affect blood flow to the area which can lead to tissue death & amputation even after the person is treated.
9. Pour activated charcoal on the bite site if it's open, this may help draw out the venom.
Live a healthy lifestyle this helps the body to cope with stress, an unhealthy person is less likely to survive crisis. The state of your health will determine if you will make it to the hospital for treatment.
Live well.
